Making it Sunday all weekend long!!!
Tue, 03/02/2010 - 10:06pm — JohnWhat a great day, (from a rough beginning) on Sunday!!! Makes on wonder what the difference is; why Sunday only?, what makes the difference?
I think we are having difficulty sustaining our focus and maintaining intensity. Many of our losses are just that, our loss rather than the other teams victories. We have to get more focussed on what we can do, and what we can control and the results will be drastically different!!!
To do that we will be having RPS (Rapid, pressured, serving) situations for all players at each practice. On Monday, our goal was 4 in a row. Tomorrow it will be six. Next week minimum of 10.
See you all Thursday.
Gulf Shores!!!
Sat, 02/20/2010 - 7:01pm — JohnGreat Job in Silver Bracket Play!!! The girls came back strong after a difficult Saturday. Very Challenging match against a big, and big hitting team from Baton Rouge.
Things we learned:
- We can in fact when a 3 set match!!!(Saturday and Silver Bracket Final)
- We can utilize skills learned in practice effectively in matches. Great job with controlled forearm sets, better back row attacks, controlled high contact on swings.
- We can work together and utilize each others strengths when we are unsure of ourselves.
Things to strive for over the next two tournaments as lead-in to Big South-Top Half Goal:
- Footwork-Move don't reach. Watch the game through movement, not just vision.
- Controlled emotions, can play up emotionally, but can not get down on ourselves or each other.
- 10-2-1 Never more important than when our competitors are getting better!!
- Do what you do, but do it better. You know your role, your position, and your job in that position. Make it your personal goal to become a beast at that position!!!
Go Hard Play all day 10-2-1
Sun, 01/31/2010 - 11:47am — JohnGreat job with the rallying cry yesterday!!! When we are in tournament, our goal is always to be the last one standing, and we came close. Hopefully some of that drive comes from preparing mentally to "play all day"
Remember homework is to be prepared to teach Coach John the Cuban Shuffle at Gulf Shores, I expect music, and choreography at that tournament as 14 Black rocks out by the Sea.
See you Monday at practice and let's be ready to hit the floor.
Working Hard and Working Together
Tue, 01/19/2010 - 11:52pm — JohnJust back from our Tuesday limited 1 hour practice, but it was an awesome practice. The girls worked in tandem to control and attack back row "off" plays, served very effectively including some very effective jump serves, then worked on creating an attack from each front row position. They energetically called their ball and worked together, which is some of the same things we saw over the weekend. Club Volleyball season is a journey, with each practice and tournament building and progressing, (hopefully) on the last.
We are working on trying to control our swings using the left as a lead and then rotating to create torque for more power, while focussing on communication and transition.
We will work on that more in the future.
Great Scrimmage on Monday/
Wed, 01/13/2010 - 12:55am — JohnThanks to 15 Red for helping to put us through the paces on Monday. Once again we have determined that 90% of the game is based on serving well, and more importantly passing, particularly at our age. Our girls showed very well in set 2 when we settled in, they actually looked like we knew where we should be most times!!! Now we have to work on not being scared to communicate on the court. Other than being in position to pass well, there is nothing more important than communicating on every play!!!!
C-U guys on Thursday!!!
Let's Go Black Magic
Thu, 01/07/2010 - 9:32pm — JohnSince we are off tonight, let's have our fingers and toes crossed that club dinner and play date are still okay for tomorrow!!!
A hectic couple of weeks until we settle in, with first tournament weekend after this one. Should be great.
In the meantime, let's think rotation. I believe 10 players with a unique set of strengths can come together a really strong team. We are learning the 6-2 offensive sets in order to always have 3 front row players preparing to attack. Our line up will always be setter, left side, middle, setter, left, side, middle. When setters are front row, they will swing to right side.
More later.....
