Upcoming Practices / Open Gyms

Hi Firecrackers!

Just a couple of notes about some upcoming gym time:

Open Gym / Extra Practice
THIS Sunday, March 14th --> Don't forget about Daylight Savings Time
1:30 - 4:00 @ McClesky

We will work on serving and hitting the entire time! No practice plan will be implemented - just a chance to work on these two elements.

Make-Up Practice
Sunday, March 28th, 5:00 - 7:00 @ McClesky
We will be serving against 15 Black - remember; its 50 serves per practice you've missed!

Practice Re Cap

Practice on Sunday March 7 went great! :) The girls really loved the game survivor and were very enthusiastic and showed a lot of team work! The girls worked on hitting and passing for most of the practice. Savannah got her timing and started slamming the ball down! (She was just one of the girls hitting great!) We are continuing to build and strengthen the team and are very excited for Lizard Fest in a couple weeks!! :)

Hi Firecrackers!

Great job in Huntsville this last weekend - we went 2-2 (matches) for the tournament in 13 Power, beating Sting 13-1 and BVC 13-1 pretty handily, and loosing only to NASA 13-1 (who we later learned were ranked 2nd in the region) and in 3 games to Delta Force 13-1 in bracket play on Sunday.

The level of play you ladies have accomplished is right on par for being over half way through the season; more consistent serving, being better at setting up an offensive play, and being able to adapt to our opponents style of play. In our second game against NASA, we were neck and neck, and at one point ahead, which shows us you girls have the drive to play highly competitive volleyball.

We now know to move on to finessing our attacks - being more consistent and aggressive. The next few practices will focus on this element of our game.

I know some of the you have missed some practices recently, and according to our MISS policy, you owe some serves. I am going to try to arrange in the next week or so for the girls to stay about half an hour after an upcoming practice to do their serves against another team.

I personally had a great time with the you ladies in Huntsville; with all the down time, we got a chance to laugh, giggle and get to know each other a little more and I loved it!

@ Next practice:
  • Bring you last homework assignment, if you haven't yet already (being positive on the court).
  • Bring your February Fitness Calendar.
  • Be ready to focus and work hard!

See you Thursday!

Huntsville Wrap Up

0008-0710-1921-1822.jpg

Great job ladies, you really played as a team this tournament and picked each other up when things were not going our way. It is truly a joy to coach players who care about each other.  The team activities as always were a blast. Thank you Coach Carrie and Coach Sarah for hosting the pizza / movie party of Saturday night.

 Tournament observations:

  • We won more sets than we lost.
  • The team defense and coverage was better!
  • Our serving consistency also showed improvement.
  • We gave the number 1 team in the tournament a very tough match!

 Points of Emphasis:

  • Picking a target and Serving that area with authority.
  • Approach, Leap, and HIT the ball.
  • Situational awareness.
  • Relentless pursuit of the ball.
  • Continue to play positive within yourself and as a team.

We have three weeks before Lizard Fest to practice and continue to improve. We need each of you to be at every practice and be ready to work hard for the entire two hours. We are also working on scheduling more skils clinics in the coming weeks.

Throw Some Rolls

Hi Firecrackers!!

Just wanted to re-cap this weekend; I hope you all had fun on your first out of town tournament with Cobb Atlanta and your teammates!

As many of you know, almost all of you, in almost every match, met your personal goals. I am so proud to see you ladies working hard to reach the goals you have set for yourself. This shows focus and ambition and accomplishing your goals contributes to the overall success our your team

We had some incredible matches against some fierce competition - the volleyball you played against Tri-Co 14-1 and MCVA 13-1 (the team with the 10 yr olds that just wouldn't quit!) was among the best playing we've seen you do all year. I'll hand over a few W's if I can see our Firecrackers playing better, more intense and competitive volleyball.

Sunday was a bit of a bust; our biggest weakness was playing with a "defeated" attitude. Remember how we felt when we saw those tiny, 10 year olds take on the 6 foot tall 14's? They didn't give up any point - they made them work for it. They stayed positive and focused - we can do that too, and we need to when we face strong teams.

Hunstville is right around the corner - lets focus on our weaknesses in the next few practices and be ready to take on ANYONE in Alabama!

Peace out!

This is That

Sup Firecrackers?!?

Just a few thoughts for this week;

There will be a Middle Hitter / Blocker & Setter Clinic this Sunday (2/7) at Kell after practice (3:00 - 4:00). Coach Joe (middle) from 16 Black and Coach Tara (setting) from 15 Red will be hosting the clinic, with help from other Cobb Atlanta Coaches. There is no charge to attend, but you will have to make up fitness later in the week. More position clinics to come, so stay tuned!

Also, don't forget your homework, due Sunday:

"How do you express yourself when you are upset or frustrated? How do you want others to react or help you when you get down?"

Gulf Shores is fast approaching - lets keep up the good work in practice and make sure we are focusing on our weaknesses and making them our strengths. How are we doing on Free Ball transitions? Are our serves consistent? Are we making the best use of ALL our hitters? Lets make a good showing for our region in LA (lower Alabama)!

See you Sunday!

13 Red Brings Home the First Cobb Atl Victory!!

WOOHOOO FIRECRACKERS!!!

Congrats on winning the North Atlanta Winterfest Tournament!!! We are the first Cobb Atlanta Team this season to bring home a 1st place finish - what an amazing achievement!!! We are so very proud of you ladies - you played hard all day, racked up some serious stats (100 Aces for the day as a team!), and we only lost one game the entire day (and to the team we later beat in the championship match!)

We had lots of opportunities to improve our game - worked on putting plays together, trying different sets, and even worked on our spot serving. We were really impressed to see you ladies practice maturity and integrity - we loved looking over during the coaches meeting to see you ladies already warming up for your first match without any coach's leadership. Also, watching you communicate on the court and adjust to serves without our direction shows that you guys are learning to be independent and strong players - we are so proud!!!!

Again, GREAT JOB ladies - Mom and Dads - thanks for sticking it out late and helping our girls bring home a Victory!!!

You guys rock!

Coach Carrie & Coach Sarah (and Coach Steve!)

P.S. WEAR YOUR SHIRT TO PRACTICE TODAY!!!
